Federal jury in Portland says Topgolf must pay more than $15M in damages to boy hit in head with club

Portland, Oregon (September 2025) — A federal jury found Topgolf negligent for a nine-year-old boy's injury when he was hit in the head by a golf club during a friend's birthday party at the Hillsboro location, awarding the family nearly $16 million in damages. The suit was filed against Topgolf Hillsboro and Topgolf International stemming from a November 11, 2021 injury, when the boy was struck in the forehead with a golf club by another boy during the party.
The eight-member jury returned the verdict after nearly two days of deliberations, following about two weeks of trial.
